Instructions for Participants
Please share these instructions with all members of your group to ensure a smooth and enjoyable parade experience.
1. General Guidelines
Thank you for participating!
Your involvement helps make this event special for everyone.
No Additional Santas or Mrs. Clauses:
The official Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be provided. Please do not include any additional characters resembling them.
Family-Friendly Event:
Ensure all participants maintain appropriate behaviour and attire throughout the event.
2. Arrival and Staging
Arrival Time:
All floats must arrive and be in position by 9:00am.
Multiple Vehicle Entries:
If your float consists of more than one vehicle, all vehicles must arrive together for assembly.
Drop-Off Instructions: Participants should be dropped off in the parking lot on the east side of the Superstore.
Route to Drop-Off:
Vehicles dropping off participants or equipment should travel via Carrick St., use the roadway behind the Superstore, and unload in the designated parking lot along Gorham St.
No Entry Points:
Floats are not allowed to enter the Superstore lot from Gorham St. or Memorial Ave.
3. Parking and Vehicle Restrictions
Parking Rules:
No parking is allowed in the roadway behind the Superstore or in the front lot. Only designated float vehicles are allowed in the main area reserved for floats.
Engine Shutdown:
Where possible, please turn off vehicle engines while waiting to reduce exhaust fumes, which helps protect the environment and the health of those at the staging area.
4. Parade Route and Safety
Parade Pace:
Once the parade starts, proceed slowly along Memorial Avenue. Remember that there will be people walking alongside the floats.
Distance Between Floats:
Maintain a distance of approximately 10 meters (30 feet) from the float in front of you to ensure safety and a smooth flow. Do not get closer or fall further behind.
Mechanical Issues:
If your vehicle experiences mechanical problems during the parade, pull over safely to the side and signal for other floats to pass. If the issue is resolved, you may re-enter the parade at a suitable interval.
5. Candy Distribution
Candy Policy:
Do not throw candy into the crowd. To ensure the safety of children and spectators, all candy must be handed out directly by walkers.
6. End of Parade Procedures
Auditorium Site Instructions:
After making the right-hand turn into the Auditorium grounds,
do not stop immediately
. Follow the parking lot attendants’ directions to find a spot for participants to safely disembark.
Post-Parade Departure:
Once your float leaves the Auditorium grounds, it becomes a regular vehicle on the road. Ensure that no one is riding on the float once it enters public roadways.
7. Post-Parade Activities
Refreshments:
Coffee, hot chocolate, and popcorn will be available at the Auditorium site.
Meet Santa:
The Community Auditorium Lobby will be open for children to warm up and meet Santa Claus, who will arrive around 10:00am.
8. Animal Participation
Animal Safety and Clean-Up:
If you have animals (e.g., horses or dogs) in your float, ensure proper clean-up with a “pooper scooper” to maintain the cleanliness of the parade route.
9. Maps and Additional Instructions
Consult Maps:
Make sure your drivers have a copy of the parade route map and the layout for the Superstore and Auditorium grounds. Familiarize yourself with these instructions and the maps to ensure a smooth experience.
